Connect VS Code

Not yet tested. We haven't walked through these steps in VS Code ourselves yet, so a menu or button may be named differently. If something doesn't match, tell us at support@flamap.app.

FlaMap works with GitHub Copilot's chat in VS Code, in Agent mode.

Before you start

  • A FlaMap account, and access to its email inbox.
  • VS Code with GitHub Copilot, signed in.

One line

From a terminal:

code --add-mcp '{"name":"flamap","type":"http","url":"https://api.flamap.app/mcp"}'

Or add it to an mcp.json file yourself. Run MCP: Open User Configuration from the Command Palette to have FlaMap in every workspace, or edit .vscode/mcp.json for one workspace:

{
  "servers": {
    "flamap": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.flamap.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

If the file already has a servers block, add only the "flamap": { … } entry inside it. Do not add a client ID: FlaMap registers VS Code on its own.

Steps

  1. Add FlaMap with the one-liner, the config file, or MCP: Add Server in the Command Palette (choose HTTP, paste https://api.flamap.app/mcp, name it flamap).
  2. VS Code starts the server and asks to sign in. Allow it. A page on flamap.app opens in your browser.
  3. Sign in to FlaMap (Google or an emailed code).
  4. Read what VS Code is asking for and where your data goes. Tick the consent box (Approve stays greyed out until you do), then select Approve.
  5. Go back to VS Code.

Check that it works

  1. Run MCP: List Servers. flamap should be running.
  2. Open Copilot Chat and switch it to Agent mode.
  3. Select the Configure Tools button and make sure the FlaMap tools are ticked.
  4. Ask: "Using flamap, what is my FTP?"

VS Code asks before it runs each tool. The answer should show your FTP and your estimated FTP over recent months.

Your first real question

"Using flamap, which climbs did I ride most this year, and what is my best time on each?"

More ideas are in the README.

Disconnect

In VS Code: MCP: List Servers → flamap → stop or remove it, or delete the flamap entry from mcp.json. To sign out, use the Accounts menu at the bottom of the activity bar.

In FlaMap: open flamap.app/settings/ai-assistants and revoke VS Code. See the privacy page.

If something goes wrong

  • flamap does not start: run MCP: List Servers, select flamap and show its output.
  • No FlaMap tools in chat: chat must be in Agent mode, and the tools ticked under Configure Tools.
  • More in the README troubleshooting.
